Hiatus/Drop

Hiatus
Can't keep up with the game for a bit? Need to take a step back from your characters? Have an emergency come up? You can take a hiatus to signal you're not going to be playing for a bit. While you're on hiatus, you don't have to meet activity requirements, and you're not expected to get back to plot things going on. You can only stay on hiatus for a limited amount of time, so don't overuse this, or you might find yourself in a hard place.

At any time, you may place any or all of your characters on hiatus by commenting to this post. If you have a definitive date you're going to be back, give it then; if your hiatus will be forward-dated (it hasn't started yet), give us that too. You can't backdate a hiatus; if it's the 8th and you mean to be on hiatus from the 4th to the 18th, we can't make the hiatus stick for the whole two weeks. If you were on hiatus for at least seven days during an activity period, you are exempt from the activity check; if you're back by the time the check goes up, please post to the check, but instead of providing comments, you can just note that you were on hiatus. If you're still gone when the activity check goes up, we'll check for people on hiatus and note them - if you don't get a chance to reply, you'll be okay.

A hiatus cannot protect you from two consecutive activity checks! If something comes up and you need to hiatus out of a check for a second month, please get a hold of us, and we'll see if something can be done about it. As a general rule, though, you will need to make activity the month after a hiatus, or risk Bad Stuff happening.

Not interested in continuing to play a character, or Raise the Earth in general? We'll be sorry to see you go! There's just a little bit of paperwork we'd like to ask you to fill out for us.

To drop a character, you'll fill out a short form and comment to this post with it. Mostly, this is so we can make sure we sweep you from all the lists and make sure nothing we had planned for the near future tries to affect a character that's no longer in the game. However, there is one important consideration: what happens to your character.

You can either choose to have them lose their Echoes and continue their life as a normal person, or you can figure out a more permanent way for them to exit the plot. If you are planning to pick this character back up, choose the first option. Otherwise, you have the option to have your character meet a tragic fate. If you have such a scenario in mind, let us know in your drop comment, and we'll note it; if it has an effect on the game plot, we'll kick it into motion. If you don't have any ideas, but you would rather your character not be running around the game world, let us know; the plot can always use recognizable names to run into trouble.

If you drop a character that has a strike, and less than two weeks of the month have gone by, that character's strike expires at the end of the month - you can reapply for that or any other character at that time. Starting on the 15th and through to the end of the month, dropped characters lose their strike at the end of the following month.
